Home-schooling is hard. It is not a walk in the park and things aren’t all breezy and happy. There are going to be a lot of stressful times where you just want to throw in the towel and be done with it. You may even seriously consider sending your kids to a public school so that you don’t have to deal with it anymore. If this sounds like you, take a deep breath. It gets better.
It is especially hard to teach more than one child at home. It is worse when they are far apart in their ages. Every day may be a struggle to get one to concentrate and not disturb the other. Household chores will be something that you do on the weekends because there is so little time for them during the day. If you go through this, stop and take a look at why you wanted to home-school in the first place. One home-school mom said that every time there is something that her child is not excelling in others tend to blame it on their home-school education. If they are a little behind in their reading level it is usually assumed that it is because they are taught at home. If they have a hard time paying attention to anything, it is because they are taught at home. This of course is not true but there are a lot of people that are not educated enough on what goes on during home-schooling.
This home-school mom said that she thought about the many different reasons that she wanted to teach her children herself. She said that she wanted them to learn from their siblings more than peers. She wanted them to learn in a family environment as opposed to a classroom packed full of other children. She wants her children to enjoy learning which is one of the many benefits of home-schooling. With all of this kept in mind, it is easy to look past the stress of what goes on during the day. Focus on your children’s success and happiness and it will make it all worth it.
