For over 30 years, actor Blair Underwood has made his mark in black cinema, arts, and television. His commitment to his craft along with his work in promoting artists is without question something that should be celebrated. When many actors leave the industry after facing disappointments ranging from professional to personal drama, it’s good to know that Underwood has remained consistent.
Because of Underwood’s commitment and passion for doing what he loves doing, he will give the Commencement Address to the 2015 Graduating Class at American InterContinental University on Saturday, August 8th.
Underwood is a two-time Golden Globe nominee. In 1985, he made his film acting debut in the movie Krush Grove. Underwood went on to attend Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburg, Pa and has won the NAACP Image Award several times.
An avid supporter of nonprofits, he ‘co-founded Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), which has raised and granted upwards of $9 million dollars for African nonprofits. He’s also worked with organizations such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation,’ according to Black Enterprise.
During his commencement address, Underwood will discuss how education and career success connect. In addition, he will encourage the new graduates to embark on a new chapter in their lives.
“This past year has marked such exciting changes in my own career, and there is no better feeling than knowing all of your dedication and hard work is paying off,” Underwood said. “As AIU students take to the stage for their commencement ceremony, I hope to inspire them to seize the moment and recognize their accomplishment of this important milestone, while looking forward to even greater success in the future.”
With all of his accomplishments, American InterContinental University made the wise choice in selecting Blair Underwood.
