Triplets Accepted into Ivy League Schools Make Decision About Which One To Attend

It is not every day that you hear about three brothers who are accepted to Ivy League schools. The “Jones Boys” triplets are currently considering which Ivy League university to attend after graduating from Georgetown Day School. All three teenagers have been accepted to the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University.

It’s rare to find triplets at all, never mind those that excel at the academic level reached by “Jones Boys.” The teenagers, Khalil, Malik and Ahmed, give credit to their parents who have encouraged and fostered their success. They also reveal that the competition they had amongst themselves also helped them achieve excellent performance.

“If one of them can accomplish something, then without a doubt, I can definitely do it, too,” Malik, one of the three boys, told NBC Washington reporter Zachary Kiesch.

The three all earned a 3.7 GPA and had excellent SAT scores. Their performance earns them chances at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania.

The triplets now join the leagues of other Black Ivy League hopefuls this year, such as Akintunde Ahmad, Kwasi Enin, and Avery Coffey. These teens have gained entry to various Ivy League universities. As such, this year has been a good one for black college applicants. Harvard has reportedly admitted a record number of black students.

The successes of such students have fueled greater discussions about the importance of academic excellence and perseverance.  Conversely, some critics point to affirmative action as the catalyst for growing admission numbers. Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a decision that bans racial preference in college admissions. This came at a time when the University of Michigan was planning to increase minority enrollment and help students of various backgrounds feel welcome at the institution.
