A middle school located in Georgetown, Texas is under heavy scrutiny after a 12-year-old black girl who attends the school claimed that she was constantly bullied by racist students without the district doing anything about it.
According to a very recent report by the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, a written report by officials at James N. Tippit Middle School says that the unnamed girl was called an “ape” by one of her fellow students. In another incident that happened this past March, a female student called the girl her slave and pretended to beat her with a whip, according to the school’s report.
The girl’s father is a man named Robert Ranco. Ranco is a civil rights attorney who works in Round Rock, Texas. He told The Statesman that his daughter has been a victim of racist bullying at her school for quite some time. Ranco also said that officials at Tippit Middle School and the Georgetown public school district have done nothing about it.
Ranco went on to say that officials at the Georgetown Independent School District failed to classify what has happened to his daughter over the past few months at school as bullying.
“It makes me feel like the school district is sweeping this under the rug,” Ranco told The Statesman. “Georgetown Independent School District has had a least a few suicides in the last five years resulting from bullying – I don’t have that concern for my daughter, but I’m sure other parents didn’t think their kids were suicidal, either,” he continued.
The Statesman also reported that their attempts to reach officials working for the Georgetown Independent School District were unsuccessful. This type of stonewalling by the school district is going on despite the fact that the written report filed by Tippit Middle School officials claims that Ranco’s daughter “was a victim of more than one incident of racially harassing conduct from classmates.”
It is quite plausible to surmise that children pick up these kind of racist ways from their parents who teach them a philosophy based on the historical existence of white supremacy in America. The Georgetown Independent School District may indeed be covering up pervasive, race-based harassment and all other types of bullying.
