A penchant for hip-hop music has already led a pre-teen black girl on a path toward financial security and major brand affiliation by way of a short viral video.

According to BET, 11-year-old Alaya High (better known by her stage name “That Girl Lay Lay”) became an Instagram sensation after a brief video of herself was posted delivering a freestyle verse to the instrumental of rap legend Ice Cube’s 1990s era hit “Today Was a Good Day.”

Alaya’s freestyle video of herself in a car was a runaway sucess and quickly clocked in almost a quarter of a million views online. The adorable little wordsmith rapped about Alex and Ani, a popular fine jewelry retailer based in Rhode Island, which happens to be her favorite outlet for bling.

“Might buy some for the whole fam/Alex and Ani got me on glam,” Alaya rapped in her video of unbridled cuteness.

This miniature lyricist’s passion for bars, hooks, and jewels quickly caught the eye of marketing executives at Alex and Ani, as well as Mr. Today Was a Good Day himself. Subsequently, Alaya inked a new deal with Alex and Ani, which makes her a brand ambassador and the face of  the jeweler’s new marketing campaign.

“My current state is bringing new school to the old school for #FreestyleFriday. S/o to @alexandani and @icecube for making today a good day!” Alaya wrote in a post on her Instagram page.

BET also reported that Alaya’s new campaign attracted so much traffic to Alex and Ani’s website that it caused the server to crash on Cyber Monday this year. Talk about breaking the internet! We can only hope that this bling-buying campaign will not be the last of what we see from this future lady hip-hop legend.

Using this controversial art from in a positive way that uplifts and empowers children is definitely the best way to go.
