A homeschooling father and entrepreneur who resides in Tampa, Florida is proving that the conventional paths prescribed by society for earning a living and educating children is not the only way or the best way.
Derrick Grace, Jr. (pictured left) is a cryptocurrency investor and independent businessman who in his late 20s decided to cancel out conventional education when his daughter Derrica (pictured right) turned six years of age. The married father of four determined that traditional schooling was merely a babysitting service that did nothing to enhance his child’s level of self-awareness or sense of survival.
Black children raised in America require a distinct and diligent regimen of educational resources when it comes to how they are taught about their race’s history and contributions to American society. Grace obviously understands this and took action when he grew tired of depending on a traditional education system, which has historically never had black children in mind since its inception and during its ongoing evolution.
Grace’s own alternative education regimen consists of what he calls an “Unlearn and Relearn” program of studies for his children.
“To me school is a day care. It’s a place where the adults take the babies while they worry about adult life. I’m not a huge fan of the school system state-wide, or on a national level. I think they do a whole lot to dilute the mental progression of our children. So I think it’s absolutely a necessity that we take it into our hands,” Grace said, according to the UK’s Metro newspaper.
Grace is also a major advocate of responsible gun ownership. He is an active practitioner of invoking his Second Amendment rights and even provides Derrica, as well as his nine-year-old son with advanced firearms training. In an age of widespread gun violence getting normalized and the lingering armed threat that blacks still face from white supremacist organizations, weapons training for parents and children of the black family is essential.
“My curriculum includes guns because violence can take place anywhere in the world at any given moment. I’m a firm believer that if you have guns in your house, an educated mind is far greater than a wondering mind,” Grace was also quoted as saying.
Additionally, Grace’s homeschooling curriculum consists of extensive modules, which supply his children with the mandatory knowledge they need regarding black history in America. Lessons about the Black Panther Party and what it stood for are also included in the Grace Family’s home-based early education system.
Finally, Grace’s valiant, self-contained contributions to his children’s education provides them with a steady diet of critical lessons on something, which is dangerously absent from traditional schooling: Investing. This homeschool father’s business success in the past was multiplied substantially by well-timed investments fueled by the cryptocurrency boom experienced by U.S. financial markets in recent history.
