Meet 12 Yr Old Jamila: Author and CEO of Her Own Company

By: Krystle Crossman

At just 12 years old, Jamila Thompson is the CEO and founder of her own company. She started Rub a Dub Spa Parties for Kids, Inc. Not only does she own her own company but she is also a published author. She may only be in the 7th grade but she has accomplished things that adults could only dream of doing. Thompson sat down for an interview with HelloBeautiful.com and spoke about her business and what the idea behind it was.

When Jamila was just 7 years old she went to a spa party with her mother. She loved it so much that she told her mother that she wanted to do that for her birthday. Her mother took care of everything and she ended up having the best time. She had 22 girls come over and they all had a day of pampering that included pedicures, manicures, facials, massages, and had their make-up done. After they were all primped and pampered they put on a fashion show. Jamila told her mother that she wanted to throw parties like this all the time for other girls and so the company was born.

Her mother took care of all of the booking details and Jamila would do all of the pampering for the party goers. They hired another girl as well to help out with the pampering. The age range of those that attend the parties are between 5 to 16 years old. Jamila said that she did have to fire one person because she was not being respected as a boss. She stated that her mother told her that her age should never be something that slows her down.

Jamila loves being a source of inspiration for other girls out there. She says that it feels really good when others commend her for the work she is doing when she is only 12 years old. One of the biggest challenges that she finds with the business is getting the word out to let people know that her company is around. She states that word of mouth is one of the best ways to bring in new clients.

Jamila said that when things were slow in the beginning she almost thought about giving up but now they have a waiting list and she is really glad that she stuck around. She said that she wants to send a message to young girls that they should think about the future now instead of later in life.

  1. Fee

This young lady is a doll and an inspiration. The article does not mention her publication, only the business. Great work. Entreprenuership is the way of a bright future for blacks. It’s hard work in the beginning, but the payoff is worth it in the end.
